kitschy school charts from india

everytime i visit india i pick up alot of materials to survive here in belgium, and being the queen of kitsch i pick up many kitschy things to do creative things with, like these school charts.i bought them for an rupee each(i remember them being much cheaper when i was younger)and loads of them to use in different ways.i still remember how i used to use them in school for GK,history and science.i just love the graphics and the colours and the fact that each drawing is described in three different languages.
i want to share how i use these charts apart from letting my children learning from them.

you can plastify them and use them as plate mats(ideal for messy children)

i used them to make slingers for the childrens birthday parties.

they are amazing to wrap gifts in.

or as sketch book covers.

or as cards.
i made these when my daughter nitya was born, to announce her birth.hand made each one of them(around 100)and bordered them with golden ribbon.

sometimes the most unnoticed things can be real treasures.enjoy:))

I grew up in India, but I don't remember these.

I found a 'multiplication chart' at a world bazaar shop in Virginia. It has numerals in english, but the heaeders in both hindi and english - It is really cool, it hangs in my study.

great post - you are so creative :)

Love the birth announcement cards!I'm so glad you shared these charts with us. They are common to those who have lived in India but to me they are totally new...and delightful.

It was pure coincidence that I stumbled across your blog and saw that you had written about the Ideal boy; pure coincidence too that I had written about this almost a year ago to the day. Here's the link: http://india-in-my-nightie.blogspot.com/2007/08/ideal-boy.html

These educational charts are lovely, and you've reminded me that I should dig out some more.

Lucky you being in Belgium, one of my favourite places. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if you want to see why Belgium means so much to many of us Brits, take a weekend trip out to the First World War battlefields and visit The Menin Gate at Ypres and nearby Tyne Cot Cemetery; very sobering.

Nice blog.
